American Flag Cookie Recipe

These American Flag cookies are great for any patriotic holiday party or event.  Bake a few batches for your next July 4th or Labor Day cookouts!

Ingredients

• 1 whipped egg white
• 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract
• 1 cup of margarine
• 1 ½ cup of sugar
• 1 tbsp of red coloring
• 1 tbsp of blue coloring
• 2 ½ cups of flour, unbleached
• 1 ½ teaspoons of baking powder

Directions

Prepare the oven by heating it to 350 degrees. Get a mixing bowl and combine egg whites, margarine and vanilla extract. In another bowl combine the baking powder, flour and sugar. Add ingredients of both bowls into one bowl and mix until moist. Divide the dough in three equal amounts. Use your food coloring and tint one amount of dough with red and another with blue. Mix each portion as well as you can to absorb the coloring. Now mold each portion into a long bar. Pile the bars on top of each other in a red, white, and blue formation. Wrap the bars in wax paper and place in the fridge for approximately and hour. After an hour, take the bars out of the fridge and cut them into bars, about ¼ thick. Now place your cookies on a greased baking sheet and put into the oven for 10-14 minutes.
