Cooking methods for healthier eating

Cooking food in water is one of the healthier types of cooking, but not the only one. Discover and learn more so it never gets boring.

A healthy lifestyle is not always as easy as you think. One has to consider health issues, personal taste, and the nutritional value of the food. Also, not all cooking methods are appropriate.

  1. Boil in water

This is one of the easiest cooking methods to cook healthy food. You just need a little water and a little bit of salt, spices or herbs, depending on the taste you want.

 

To use this method and cook nutritious dishes in the process, take care of the following:

  • Do not add the food until the water is boiling.
  • When the food is cooked and has the desired texture, remove the water from the stove immediately.
  • If you’re making vegetables instead of broth, strain them right away. Then quench it with cold water to prevent it from boiling further.
  1. Steamed in the steam bath

This cooking method is very similar to the first. The only difference is that the food does not come into direct contact with the water.  To do this, put a little boiling water in a saucepan. It should stand about 2 inches tall.

  1. Grilling

Grilling can also be very healthy. All you need is a grill or a non-stick pan and direct contact with a heat source. This method is great for vegetables and proteins.

Using this cooking method, you can easily reduce the fat in cooking. Grilling also causes the sugar naturally present in the food to caramelize. This gives the typical taste and removes some calories.

  1. Baked in the oven

Many who want to eat healthier like to choose the oven as their cooking method. It is often used for dessert, cakes and pizza, but it can also be used for other food preparation.

One disadvantage of this method is that not only is it enough to own an oven, but one also needs to understand how to use it. However, you can use it to conjure up sophisticated dishes with low fat content and varied ingredients.

  1. Sauté

This cooking method uses a little oil. You only need a minimum amount and you can choose one of the highest quality, such as extra virgin olive oil.
